If there’s one thing Minnesota deer hunters never run short of, it’s stories. Around the campfire, in the truck, or back at the cabin after dark, stories are how we share the moments that make hunting more than just a pastime. They are part of our tradition.
To celebrate that storytelling heritage, the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association is launching the first-ever MDHA Member Story Writing Contest, giving members of all ages a chance to see their tales in print in Whitetales and on mndeerhunters.com.
Whether it’s your first deer, an unforgettable buck, a memorable deer camp adventure, or simply the joy of being in the woods, we want to hear your story.

Hunters in the adult category should submit original stories between 800 and 1,500 words.

Keeping the Tradition Alive
Hunting stories are more than words on a page. They are the heartbeat of deer camp. They remind us why we hunt, who we share it with, and what we pass on to the next generation.
This winter, as you sit by the fire and swap stories with your hunting crew, take the time to write one down and send it our way. Your story could help inspire the next generation of Minnesota deer hunters.
